Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface away from heat sources.

  1. Connect audio sources: Use RCA cables to connect turntable, tuner, tape deck, etc.
  2. Connect to amplifier: Use RCA cables from Main Output to power amplifier inputs.
  3. Connect tape deck: Use Tape Output and Tape Input jacks for recording/monitoring.
  4. Plug into AC power outlet.

WARNING! Tubes generate heat; ensure adequate ventilation. Allow tubes to cool before handling.

First-Time Setup

Power on preamplifier; allow tubes to warm up for 30 seconds before use.

  1. Select input source: Turn Input Selector to desired source (Phono, Tuner, Aux, Tape).
  2. Set volume: Start with Volume control at minimum, then adjust to desired level.
  3. Adjust tone: Set Bass and Treble controls to neutral position initially.
  4. Balance channels: Use Balance control to equalize left/right channel levels.

CAUTION! Do not touch tubes during operation; they operate at high temperatures.

Specifications

Connecting Components

Phono: Connect turntable to Phono input. Tuner: Connect FM/AM tuner. Aux: Connect CD player, tape deck, etc. Tape: Use Tape Input/Output for recording.

  1. Turn off all components before making connections.
  2. Use high-quality shielded RCA cables for all connections.
  3. Ensure proper grounding for turntable connection to Phono input.
  4. Connect Main Output to power amplifier inputs.

Tip: Keep signal cables away from power cords to minimize hum and interference.

Operation Guide

Proper operation ensures optimal performance and tube longevity.

  1. Power On: Switch power on and allow 30-second warm-up period.
  2. Source Selection: Rotate Input Selector to desired source.
  3. Volume Control: Adjust volume gradually to desired listening level.
  4. Tone Adjustment: Use Bass and Treble controls to suit room acoustics and program material.
  5. Loudness: Engage for low-volume listening to restore bass response.
  6. Tape Monitoring: Use Tape Monitor switch to listen to tape playback while recording.
  7. Mono Operation: Use Mono switch for mono recordings or weak stereo signals.

WARNING! Never operate without proper ventilation. Tubes require adequate airflow.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends tube life.

  1. Tube Replacement: Replace tubes every 2000-3000 hours or when performance degrades.
  2. Cleaning: Use soft cloth for exterior; compressed air for dust removal from vents.
  3. Contact Cleaning: Use contact cleaner on controls if scratchiness develops.
  4. Ventilation: Ensure adequate space around unit for proper airflow.

CAUTION! Always unplug unit before performing any maintenance. Tubes remain hot after use.

Technical Information

The Marantz 7T employs a fully discrete, transformer-coupled design with premium components. The phono stage provides accurate RIAA equalization for magnetic cartridges. The tone control circuit uses passive equalization for minimal distortion. All critical signal paths use point-to-point wiring for superior signal integrity.
